As the supervisor in the Data Curation Team within the DPC, this position reports to the Data Curation Manager and provides direct supervision to highly skilled technical analysts. The Supervisor provides daily management and support for development of new data assets for UC Davis Health analytic, research, quality and operational needs. Ensures technical analysts follow standard data curation practices for data retrieval, curation, validation, and documentation. Supervises staff to ensure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial and human) in compliance with departmental policies, goals, and objectives. Provides direction, sets priorities, and analyzes workflow for subordinate technical staff, according to established policies and management guidance.
The Clinical Informatics Supervisor will play a key role in growing the team and providing strategic planning, consultation, project management and proactive high-level IT support to analytic and reporting units throughout the Health System. Works collaboratively with a wide variety of UCDH departments to identify technical, data quality, and administrative benchmarks and standards.
Minimum 10 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility or complexity in healthcare analytics, clinical informatics, or data curation for operations, quality improvement or research.
3+ years of experience leading technical project teams to successfully achieve clinical, research and/or hospital operations project goals.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in health/clinical informatics, healthcare administration, information science, or computer science.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and supervise a technical team and manage and prioritize the activities of technical staff.
Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, design and run queries, collect and analyze performance data, and produce sophisticated reports and analyses for management use.
Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate productively with IT professionals, clinicians, customers, staff and vendors to promote optimal functionality and integration of systems.
Knowledge of human resources practices and policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff activities and performance and contribute to decision-making on personnel matters.
Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information and instructions in a clear, concise, and specific manner to subordinate staff, management, and all end users of data operations.
Customer-service orientation as evidenced by project work.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to deliver high quality results within aggressive timelines.
Strong technical skills (ETL, query languages, programming) and ability to assist staff with technical issues.
Experience incorporating industry and vendor best practices in operations.
Highly developed conceptual and analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Master's degree or equivalent in Health Informatics, Public Health, or Healthcare Administration.
Knowledge or experience with Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and AI a plus.
Clarity Data Model certification.
Previous involvement in quality improvement or research projects related to hospital operations, critical care, emergency medicine, trauma, etc.
Familiarity with visualization/analytics tools (Business Objects, Tableau, R, SAS); ability to translate data into actionable information via graphical representations.
Must be able to work extra hours (nights and weekends) if important development is behind schedule or the correction of problems with operational systems is considered critical.
Position will require travel for training and conference attendance.
