The University is in the process of implementing a new classification and compensation structure. The impending change is expected to be completed by Fall 2020. Any P&S employee hired through this posting may be assigned a new title and associated pay grade upon the employment start date (and after the initial offer), commensurate with qualifications required for the position. The duties and responsibilities of the posted position, in addition to compensation offered, will not be affected by this process.
The Office of Student Financial Aid, a unit within the division of Academic Affairs, administers more than $400 million federal, state, institutional and private funds to over 85% of undergraduate students and additional support for domestic graduate students seeking aid.Â Working within federal, state and institutional regulatory guidance, a quality assurance specialist will provide direction regarding policies and procedures to students, parents and Office of Student Financial Aid staff pertaining to the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the Federal verification program. This individual will assist in the development of policies and procedures, and implement methods for evaluating and processing complex documents provided by students and parents. Including but not limited to, IRS tax return transcripts, IRS form 1040âs, W-2âs, 1099âs, institutional verification forms, citizenship documents, selective service documents, and Department of Homeland Security documents. To maintain U.S. Department of Education (DOE) Verification program compliance and FAFSA application filing requirements.
The Quality Assurance Specialist I will report to the Associate Director and function within a staff team in the Office of Student Financial Aid. This individual will work with the development and implementation of processes to efficiently and effectively route and review the thousands of documents provided in response to FAFSAâs selected by the DOE to complete verification.Â They will participate in an annual review of policies, procedures and institutional selection logic related to the verification program and provide input on processing, reporting and training changes needed to address updated regulation guidance.Â They will review weekly system reports and update internal and external online student systems to resolve identified discrepancies. They will counsel and advise students/parents about financial aid as needed.
The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills including the ability to explain FAFSA and verification policies and methods to multiple audiences with differing levels of understanding. They will need to demonstrate attention to detail in establishing workflows to support verification document processing, hiring, supervising and training of student support staff, and audit trails to ensure consistency and accuracy in methods employed.Â This position will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and must have the capacity to work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.Â Must be self-motivated and exhibit patience in supporting the identification, resolution and documentation of process issues.
