The Wyss Institute seeks a talented, energetic professional to join our community as a Staff Scientist in the Synthetic Biology Platform. This position provides a unique opportunity to perform cutting edge, hands-on research relating to the design, creation, and testing of new gene delivery vehicles. With an emphasis on viral vectors and viral-like particles, the candidate will focus on a variety of interdisciplinary research directions including:
Engineering new viral vectors
Creating strategies to target specific organs of cell types
Increasing the safety profile and enabling re-dosing strategies
Developing new scientific tools such as next generation viral tracers
Tailoring delivery for specific diseases or conditions, such as neurological diseases or brain injury
Reporting to the Lead Senior Staff Scientist of the Synthetic Biology Platform, the candidate will perform laboratory research and work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team comprised of chemists, biologists, and engineers. The candidate will be expected to be a technical expert in their specialized area and will also keep abreast of emerging industry trends. When necessary, the Staff Scientist will also play a role in assisting with grant writing, developing intellectual property, and performing market analysis for potentially translational technologies. The candidate will mentor and assist junior researchers in executing upon clearly defined project goals and will apply project management experience to outline milestones and manage project plans.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
Bachelor's degree in bioengineering, pharmacology, virology or related discipline required.
A minimum of 5 years working with design, cloning, and production of viral vectors or related experience required; Advanced Education may count towards years of experience.
Advanced degree in biological science, bioengineering, or related discipline strongly preferred
Have the capacity to work with high urgency such as on milestone driven projects
Experience with working with animal models, ideally mice
Background in neuroscience preferred with an understanding of neuroanatomy
Experience with standard tissue analysis techniques such as immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy
Strong hands-on understanding of molecular biology and/or cell biology
