The Department of Ophthalmology in the College of Medicine, is seeking a Research Scientist to work on gene and cell therapy cystinosis. The Research Scientist should have excellent research experiences in techniques of CRISPR gene editing techniques in addition to good background in molecular biology knowledge and skills, surgery skills on mouse eye, in vivo confocal microscopy, imaging analysis, cell culture, viral packaging and purification.
Job Summary: This position will design and carry out experiments to determine the outcomes of the CRISPR editing of cystinosis mice. They will supervise research assistant(s) who provide technique support in tissue culture, PCR genotyping, electroporation, AAV virus preparation, mouse surgery, etc. They will also mentor junior graduate students, medical students and undergraduate students of SURF programs. The Research Scientist is expected to write manuscript of his/her experimental data for publication and is encourage to submit grant application to extramural funding agency.
Bachelor degree in an appropriate related discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
A Master degree in an appropriate related scientific or other relevant discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
A PhD in Physiology-Ophthalmology, or an equivalent program
Five (5) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
A solid background in Molecular Biology, Mouse Models in Ophthalmic Research
Superior oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience in research, and interests in scientific problems related to groundwater and surface water modeling are all desirable
