The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Manager with expertise in lung biology, aging, and cancer to join the Shapiro laboratory. Projects will focus on characterization of the pre-tumor niche in aging lung, and the factors which contribute to tissue malignancy. Emphasis will be placed on understanding phenotypic changes to myeloid cells and extracellular matrix in the aged lung microenvironment using preclinical mouse modeling as well as primary patient tissues.
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: flow cytometry, tissue culture, in situ tissue staining, confocal microscopy, mouse modeling, and molecular biology techniques. The Laboratory Manager will be expected to train other lab members in specialized techniques as needed. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to development work in the following:
- Molecular Biology Techniques
- DNA/RNA extraction, purification, and quantification
- Qualitative/ quantitative real-time PCR
- Run existing pipelines to analyze data and develop new pipelines with the PI
- Assists with the PI on text and figures for manuscript preparation and grant proposals.
The incumbent will also be responsible for Administrative duties for project progress and equipment maintenance.
Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Biostatistics or related field plus laboratory experience in medical research required. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
