Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Effort/Responsibilities Bench work (40%) Perform laboratory bench work needed to provide NGS results to our clients. Act as a trainer for new staff. Perform NGS optimization and validation procedures.
Design and develop new methods (40%) Expand the sequencing capabilities of the VDL by implementing successful next-generation sequencing (NGS) through all steps in the process (extraction, QC, library prep, sequencer operation). Design and develop new methods in collaboration with supervisor. A high-level of independence and decision-making is required to solve these complex problems.
Quality Assurance (10%) Conduct research and development work under a quality system outlined by AAVLD guidelines. This includes; writing and maintaining forms and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for test methods, equipment use and administrative procedures; maintaining equipment by performing calibration/ verification/ preventative maintenance and maintaining records of these activities; maintaining and evaluating QC records to monitor testing processes.
Lab Maintenance (10%) Maintain laboratory environment, which includes; inventory, purchasing, attending educational meetings, performing equipment calibration, verification, and maintenance as needed.
And other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required qualifications: M.Sc. (Master of Science) degree with 2 years relevant scientific experience or B.S. (Bachelor of Science) degree with 4 years relevant scientific experience
