Pitt Kits is a program conducted as part of the Outreach Program in the Department of Biological Sciences. The program provides curricula, equipment and supplies to implement inquiry-based learning in K-12 schools, serving 8,000-10,000 students each year. The incumbent will be responsible for scheduling Pitt Kit participation with area teachers, scheduling delivery and implementation of Pitt Kit materials, preparing and packing materials, delivering the kits, and providing classroom support when needed. They will also be responsible for gathering assessment data and working with the Director of Outreach to adjust curricula according to varied learning environments (e.g., In-person and remote learning).
The typical schedule for this position is 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, with the occasional need for evenings, weekends and 7am start time for school visits. A valid driver's license, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment. Position is funded by non-university funds for one year and the continuation of this position is contingent upon the renewal of these funds. Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field is preferred. Molecular Biology lab skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, ability to maintain schedules of requested kits and school visits, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, car and valid driver's license to transport kits, ability to troubleshoot data, ability to co-teach curricula with host K-12 teacher Child Abuse Clearances.
