The Park lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at HMS is a computational genomics lab specializing in genome analysis. The lab consists of highly talented and productive researchers from various quantitative fields. This Junior Scientific Programmer will assist researchers in the development, implementation, and application of new algorithms. There is ample opportunity to do independent research if desired.
Examples of tasks include:
Running bioinformatic analysis tools on genomic datasets and interpreting results, often in collaboration with other members of the lab and collaborating experimentalists. This may involve the analysis of genomes from clinical samples.
Implementing a new algorithm to run more efficiently, taking research-level code to production-level code and creating documentation, either on the local compute cluster or on Amazon/Google cloud.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated aptitude in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics/physics/computer science), proficiency in coding, and at least a strong interest in molecular biology. Nearly all who had this position have gone on to top graduate programs (e.g., Harvard and MIT) or medical schools. The candidate may be a recent college graduate or a more experienced person who may transition to a staff scientist role in the lab.
This is a one-year term position with strong potential for renewal.
