The Peripheral Neural Engineering and Urodynamics Lab (pNEURO Lab), led by Dr. Tim Bruns, is seeking applications for a postdoctoral scholar. Our lab develops interfaces with the peripheral nervous system to restore function and examine systems-level neurophysiology. We are starting an NIH-funded clinical study investigating neuromodulation of pelvic organ function with an implanted neurostimulator.
**The position is available to start in August 2020.
The new scholar will lead lab efforts in experimental planning, testing, analysis, and data sharing, and will work with project team members on imaging, surgical planning, and computational modeling. This study will involve close collaborations with colleagues from multiple disciplines and supervision over graduate and undergraduate efforts. The project will also offer opportunities for interaction and collaboration with leaders within the fields of neuromodulation and bioelectronic medicine. Additionally the scholar will have opportunities to contribute to other on-going and future projects in the pNEURO Lab, including preclinical and clinical in vivo neural stimulation, recording, and interface development.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or related field with a background in neurophysiology.Applicants are expected to have experience with in vivo or clinical neurophysiology and with scientific authorship and publication.
Prior experience with pelvic organ function is a bonus.
Neural Engineering at Michigan: The pNEURO Lab, within the top-ten ranked Biomedical Engineering department, is part of a vibrant neural engineering and neuroscience community at the University of Michigan. Neural engineering research at U-M spans many conditions, including bladder and sexual dysfunction, chronic pain, spinal cord injury, movement disorders, epilepsy, vision loss, tinnitus, limb amputation, and more. The first silicone microelectrode array, known as the Michigan Probe, was developed at U-M, and multiple efforts are underway to develop the next generations of neural interfaces. The pNEURO Lab is co-located with several other neural engineering labs in the Biointerfaces Institute at the North Campus Research Complex, which provides top-notch laboratory and scientific resources. At U-M, postdoctoral fellows have myriad resources, including a postdoctoral association.
