Position Summary: The Research and Instruction Librarian, in concert with the Library Director, provides professional leadership in the planning, programming, evaluating and assessing the library’s instruction program. The librarian in this position will collaborate with faculty to design tools and learning experiences that enhance lessons in information literacy and critical thinking delivered to Midway University students. In addition, the Research and Instruction Librarian will administer the library’s Integrated Library System, library website, and online services unique to the library.
While the librarian in this position will work independently on many projects, they will also find their goals overlap with colleagues within the library and throughout campus, providing opportunities to work in teams. The position reports to the Director of the Library.
Provides leadership in expanding and enhancing the delivery of library instruction to Midway University students, both online and face-to-face. Assesses the effectiveness of the instruction and information literacy program and prepares statistical reports on an ongoing and as needed basis.
Ensures quality and consistency with online resources that support information literacy and self-learning activities, including incorporation into the University’s learning management system (Canvas).
Works collaboratively with faculty to develop innovative and effective approaches to strengthening student information literacy skills
Participates with other department members in preparing and delivering instructional classes online and in -person, including developing and maintaining subject guides.
Manages the operation of the systemwide Integrated Library System (ALMA/Primo) and other sites unique to the department.
Develops the collection to support the academic programs of the university and assists with circulation and day-to-day library operations.
Instructs students and faculty in the use of productivity and presentation software, audio/video production, and multimedia productions in the context of content area instruction.
This position requires flexible hours. Evening and weekend work expected.
ALA-accredited MLIS and a degree/certificate or coursework in instructional design
Expertise in information literacy concepts, instructional design, assessment, and curriculum development.
Demonstrated understanding of the difference between online, face-to-face and blended learning environments and commitment to the use of new information technologies in instruction.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in using learning management systems for the delivery instruction and information literacy through Canvas LMS.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in basic library functions including cataloging and managing an integrated library system.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong public service orientation, creativity in program development and service delivery, and an ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and the campus community as well as independently.
Demonstrated ability to provide professional customer service.
Strong communication skills, including presentation skills and written communication skills.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
2 years of prior experience in instruction at an academic library is strongly preferred.
