Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThis position provides specialized assistance in the Human Resources Department, primarily in benefits and medical leave administration. This position reports to the Manager of Benefits Programs and collaborates with the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Wellness. Responsibilities:
Serves as the primary point of contact for benefits questions and issues for a large population among multiple benefits plans.
Complete benefit enrollment transactions as needed, using WorkDay and external benefit vendor websites.
Assist with billing and enrollment reconciliations, as needed.
Coordinates annual Benefits Fair.
Communicates with employees regarding their needs for leave.
Handles the leave administration process from the employees' initial notice to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork and requesting medical documentation (if appropriate) for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Disability leave, Workers Compensation, and NYS Paid Family Leave.
Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests.
Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
Responsible for OSHA Injury and Illness Recordkeeping, including Forms 300, 300A and 301.
Supervise student worker.
Provides back-up to other department members as required, and performs other duties as assigned.
An Associate's degree of equivalent is preferred.
A minimum of two years experience in a HR generalist or HR benefits role.
Event management experience is a plus.
Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with attention to detail.
Strong computer skills are required (Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; e-mail protocol; calendar tools; internet; etc.).
Experience with HRIS systems, such as Workday, preferred.
Must be able to maintain a positive professional problem-solving demeanor, during sometimes-stressful situations; maintain confidentiality and privacy; effectively manage deadlines and multiple, competing priorities; and able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a diverse community of employees, students and visitors.
