The Access Intake Specialist is a Registered Nurse who will facilitate and augment patient recruitment to Oncology clinical trials within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center. This position reports directly to the CPDM Associate Director of Clinical Operation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform phone triage for patients/caregivers who are interested in clinical trials
Identifies and contacts prospective study participants in collaboration with treating physicians
Assesses appropriateness for participation in clinical trials
Assist in gathering outside medical records
Arranging for required evaluations with the guidance of the study team
Assist with access issues
Serves as a liaison between the patient and the provider
Assist patients in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and resources available
Providing education regarding clinical trials to patients, family members, and collaborating physicians
Develops relationships with all oncology providers including but not limited to medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and primary care physicians.
Assist w/ pre-certifications and prior authorization
Develops as well as maintains tracking metrics and quality indicators
SIVs, self-directed review of new protocols, and reeducation on existing protocols, training
Completing required study-related training (i.e. review of educational slides; industry-required additional GCP testing)
Perform other duties as assigned
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4 years of related experience
Additional Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
NYS RN License
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Conflict of Interest (COI) upon hire
Nursing navigator experience
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Computer Skills: proficiency with MS Word programs and familiarity with Mac and PC platforms
