Northeastern University's Bouve College of Health Sciences has been training physician assistants since 1971, making us one of the most experienced programs in the nation. Since its founding, Northeastern's PA Program has been accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and its predecessors. The 2019 US News and World Report Graduate Rankings list Northeastern University's Physician Assistant Program as #26 in the nation. The Northeastern University Physician Assistant Program offers a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. In addition to the traditional program, there are 2 dual master's degree pathways available: PA/MPH and PA/Health Informatics (HI). Further dual degree and certificate programs are in the process of being developed as Northeastern University's PA Program continues to remain at the forefront of medical education and innovation.

About the Opportunity: The Program Director in the Physician Assistant Program, Bouve College of Health Sciences, is responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, and participation in the accreditation process. This includes identifying appropriate clinical sites, preparing for all accreditation reviews, maintaining accreditation standards, and participating in any activities necessary to maintain Northeastern at the forefront of PA education. As clinical professor, the candidate will be responsible for teaching students, writing and updating course syllabi and objectives, and advising and mentoring students.
The school/department seeks candidates whose research, teaching, and service reflect an integration of diversity and inclusion. The candidate should be prepared to provide evidence of how their research, teaching, and service has prepared them to contribute to Bouve's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Oversee the overall management of the Physician Assistant Program
Function as the chair of a university department/program
Prepare and manage the annual Program budget
Supervise PA Program faculty and administrative support staff
Represent the Northeastern University PA Program to the University and to the surrounding health care community in a positive and professional manner
Oversee accreditation maintenance, including ensuring that the Program meets all ARC-PA guidelines and standards
Oversee both the didactic and clinical components of the curriculum which includes program planning, implementation, and assessment
Chair the admissions committee and participate fully in the admissions process
Actively recruit and mentor prospective applicants to the PA Program
Coordinate and teach courses based on areas of content and clinical expertise (e.g. Professional Issues, Physical Diagnosis and Patient Evaluation, Health Care Delivery, and Problem Based Learning)
Facilitate small group discussion sessions
Advise and mentor students; participate in all aspects of recruitment, retention, and academic progression
Serve on all appropriate College and University committees
Liaison with the regional medical community for the development of clinical rotation sites and to promote the academic and career development of Northeastern PA students and graduates
Coordinate and perform site visits to PA students during clinical rotations
Monitor, evaluate, and document the academic performance of students to ensure that they successfully achieve the criteria for successful completion of both the didactic courses and clinical rotations
Participate in ongoing program review and the continuous self-study process
Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Dean of the Bouve College of Health Sciences
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (doctorate in a related field preferred) with NCCPA board certification. The applicant must be currently licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He/she must be a current PA with at least five years clinical experience and two years administrative experience working in PA education. The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion. The candidate must be knowledgeable about and responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development and participation in the accreditation process.
Preferred Qualifications: It is preferred that faculty candidates have at least three (3) years of experience as a practicing clinician and at least two (2) years of medical and/or physician assistant education. The candidate ideally will have experience in as many of the following areas as possible: prior administrative experience; program accreditation; technology integration into the educational experience; and online learning.
