A unit within the IT Division, Learning Technologies & Environments (LTE) provides vision and leadership to support excellence in teaching and learning through active learning environments, pedagogical research, and learner-centered technologies. Partnerships with faculty, academic leaders and campus stakeholders, as well regional, national and international higher education and industry partners, enable innovation and documentation of results focusing on improving student success. LTE enhances and facilitates the campus IT user experience through four main areas: Academic Technology Research & Strategic Initiatives; the Accessible Technology Initiative; Instructional Technology Services; and IT User Services.
Instructional Technology Services (ITS) provides support and leadership to the university in the development of strategies that facilitate the successful uses of technologies to enhance teaching and learning, create effective learning environments, and facilitate research and learning innovations. Instructional Technology Services is made up of 23 staff and two administrators.
The Faculty Support Specialist contributes to faculty support programs and projects, interacts on a daily basis with ITS service units, and works with SDSU faculty, staff, students, and administrators as required. A primary responsibility of this position is to provide dedicated faculty support, training, and services at ITS help desks—both physically and virtually—for an array of pedagogical tools, including the Learning Management System, digital content production and delivery, and online assessment tools and techniques.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,000 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
One or more years of experience providing academic technology support in a higher education setting or equivalent experience.
Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
Knowledge of best practices in technology applications in teaching and learning and in the delivery of academic technology support services.
Knowledge of trends and future directions of technology in the learning environment.
Website design and development experience.
Knowledge of HTML/CSS best practices.
Knowledge of database querying and administration.
Experience with 3D modeling software.
Knowledge of eXtended Reality (XR) tools and techniques.
Experience with ticketing support systems such as ServiceNow.

Knowledge of and experience with a broad range of computer hardware and software products, including both Mac and Windows operating systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot smart classroom equipment and software.
Ability to diagnose equipment and/or system malfunctions and perform corrective action.
Ability to train college facilitators, and ITS student assistants on smart classroom system installation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
Expertise with a variety of software applications related to the integration of technology in instruction (e.g., productivity tools, web editing tools, digital imaging, multimedia authoring, learning management systems, e-portfolios, communication tools, etc.).
Knowledge of the laws, guidelines, and principles associated with producing and providing accessible instructional materials and web-based content.
