The essential duties and responsibilities of the Associate Dean of Nursing under the direction of the Dean of Nursing is:
1. Assumes duties of MSN and ABSN Director.
2. Work with the Dean of Nursing to:
Provide leadership for strategic planning
Provide leadership in the development, implementation and review of academic, administrative, and governance policies and procedures in all major areas of operation
Provide leadership and oversight to academic programs. Encourage, review and support continuous improvement of programs and curriculum
Promote the vision, mission and values of the University through the activities and programs of the department, working within the University and the community to assure the well-being and success of MSMU nursing
Recruit and retain top faculty members who will achieve high standards of excellence and will enhance the cultural and ethnic diversity of the department and University
3. Provide leadership in:
Formulating specific goals, objectives, and policies
Motivating faculty toward continued creative and professional growth
Promoting positive relationships with personnel of clinical agencies
Student screening and selection
Student remediation and retention
4. Supervise and assume responsibility for:
Developing with faculty and implementing curriculum that is congruent with the philosophy of the Department of Nursing
Collaborating with the Dean of Nursing and TBSN Director in preparing accreditation and approval reports
Overseeing program budget
Screening, evaluating, and advising of potential candidates and file maintenance of admitted students
Ongoing advisement, monitoring, and advocacy of students and program
Planning and implementing orientation for admitted students
Developing with faculty teaching assignments
Co-chairing BSN Program meetings
Participate in Graduate Dean meetings
Providing liaison with other programs
In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing and other nursing directors, recruiting, selecting, and assigning of program faculty
Participating in regular program meetings
Evaluating faculty per University Status Committee guidelines
Collaborating with Director of Clinical Placements regarding clinical placements
Collaborate with Director of Experiential Learning regarding simulation
Insuring compliance with BRN regulations
Insuring compliance with CCNE standards
Maintaining faculty and student handbooks
5. To represent the ABSN/MSN Program in:
Establishing and maintaining agency affiliations in cooperation with the Dean of Nursing and Clinical Placement Office
Collaborating with Admissions Department in the assistance of student recruitment
Providing external relations with professional organizations
Attending AACN and CACN meetings
6. To maintain faculty responsibility by serving on nursing and University committee(s)
7. To maintain teaching responsibility (1-3 units/year)
Effective and efficient handling of multiple concurrent tasks/projects at multiple levels. Must be very flexible regarding planning due to unanticipated situations involving students, faculty, and affiliated agencies.
Responsibility for Assets:
Responsible for overseeing program budget and projections for future growth. This position directly impacts the image of the university through the quality of the academic program and facilitating students' opportunity to complete a bachelor of science in nursing degree and to be prepared for R.N. licensure and MSN students for post-licensure degree. The consistent success of the program's quality results in increased student acquisition and retention.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct information sessions designed to recruit prospective applicants in cooperation with the admissions office
Perform other job related duties, as assigned
Strong working knowledge of curriculum for the BSN/MSN degrees; academic advisement process, admissions procedures, evaluation process, BRN and CCNE rules and regulations, and budget management.

Education: (established by the California Board of Registered Nursing, 1425a)
Terminal nursing degree from an accredited college or university, which includes course work in nursing, education, or administration.
An established record of effective, strong and collaborative leadership
Significant academic and scholarly credentials, including a passion for academic excellence and leadership
Accreditation and BRN approval process
Curriculum development and revision
Distinguished record of scholarly achievement and professional credentials consistent with appointment at the rank of full professor;
Record of fostering excellence in research, teaching service, and manifest a commitment to academic excellence and leadership
A minimum of five year's experience in an administrative position with validated performance of administrative responsibilities (described in BRN regulation 1420h)
A minimum of five years of experience teaching in a pre-licensure registered nursing program
At least two year of continuous experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and/or equivalent experience as determined by the Board
Licenses and Certifications:
Eligible for RN license in state of California
