Dept Marketing Statement The Disability Resource Center (DRC) leads UC Santa Cruz in providing educational equity and a welcoming environment for students with disabilities. The DRC identifies legally mandated Accommodations that address disabling barriers and work with faculty and students to remove barriers. The DRC educates campus on disability diversity and equal educational access. The team ensures compliance with State, Federal and local laws and ensures compliance with UC policies.
Involves planning, developing, and implementing programs, processes, and activities for students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state law, to assure their access to the academic and campus environment.
Under the general supervision of the DRC Office Manager, the incumbent coordinates services for Accessible Technologies and Alternate Media accommodations. This includes oversight of the (iCAT) Lab, accessible. Also provides program support for the DRC Classroom Accommodations Coordinator and DRC Exam Coordinator. Applies professional knowledge to a narrow range of student disability issues and performs independently within this narrow range. Receives guidance from DRC Director on more complex issues.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $21.55 - $23.95 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Develops Accessible Technology Training and Workshops for student affiliates, as appropriate based on measurable student needs, on how to access and use accessible technology services.
Serves as the primary contact for students benefiting from the use of accessible technology and/or requesting alternate format print services.
Conducts evaluation to match students with disabilities with appropriate resources, accessible technology and alternate accessible format.
Serves as DRC liaison with faculty to ensure educational content is accessible, securing course reading lists or other instructional material.
25% - Alternate Media Production Program
Communicates with students and instructors as necessary to obtain necessary information and materials.
Processes requests from students for alternate format texts services.
Sets production schedule to ensure timely production and delivery of texts in alternate accessible format.
Ensures compliance with State and Federal copyright law.
Establishes workflow procedures to ensure quality and accuracy in the production of texts in alternate accessible format(s).
Ensures AMP lab production process, equipment and software meet industry standards.
Follows up as necessary and reports any difficulties to Supervisor.
15% - Inclusive Computing and Technology Lab (ICAT Computer Lab)
Maintains a welcoming and professional environment for students.
Oversees use of computing stations with accessible software, accessible equipment loan, and scheduling of ICAT Center.
Monitors and troubleshoots the Student Self-Scanning stations.
Ensures appropriate repair/maintenance/acquisition of ICAT Lab equipment to meet changing industry standards.
10% - Student Supervision
Responsible for hiring and supervision of student employees assigned for accommodations support, including setting work schedules, assigning work, timesheet approval and maintaining an appropriate, productive and safe workspace.
Develops training materials and trains student employees on access legal obligations, equipment and general information of programs overseen by position.
10% - Classroom Webcast & Exam Accommodation Support
Assists in managing accommodation requests with respect to accessible technology and equipment needs in classroom webcasting and testing environment to effectively manage DRC resources.
Acts as backup in absence of primary coordinator.
5% - Continuing Education
Keeps apprised of all new changes and developments in the field of higher education as applicable to functions.
5% - Other
Compiles data and assists in the completion of reports.
Performs other duties, as assigned, as needed to support the DRC's Mission and Goals.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations in relation to the narrow focus of assigned responsibilities.
Skill in communicating with students, faculty, staff, and vendors concerning access accommodations.
1-2 years experience working in education or social service-oriented office environment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, high volume and compliance-oriented environment, and work independently and respond to requests in a timely manner.
Thorough knowledge of computer applications, office systems and administrative procedures, and ability to operate office equipment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials and matters, and determine when to escalate matters to appropriate resources. Ability to apply good judgement in resource management.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, and staff.
