Essential Job Duties:
The primary job duties of the nine month Medical Laboratory Technician are as follows:
Interpreting laboratory orders and performing lab tests procedures requested by physicians and advanced practitioners.
Providing lab results to aid physicians and advanced practitioners in making a diagnosis.
Processing lab results and reports for review by physicians and advanced practitioners.
Using proper collection procedures to process, handle, and dispose of specimens properly; submitting specimens to appropriate facility.
Properly ordering tests in Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Providing timely and accurate test results. *Obtaining accurate Proficiency Testing results as established by the American Proficiency Institute.
Viewing orders from providers in EHR and perform tests when ordered.
Participate in fire and emergency preparedness drills.
Must report to work during Adverse Weather and related scenarios and for public health emergencies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Regulations.
Knowledge of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and COLA (Certificate of Label Approval) requirements.
Skilled in use of laboratory equipment and in performance of procedures.
General knowledge of the basic pathophysiological processes being monitored and how medical laboratory science is applied.
Graduation from a four year university with a degree in medical technology; or graduation from an associate degree program of medical laboratory technology with at least one year of experience.
CPR certification preferred.
Required license or certification:
Technicians performing testing must meet the educational qualifications for performing tests as stated in CLIA '88. Must be ASCP certified or eligible.
