The Research Scientist will work as an integral part of the Kibbe Lab, which is part of the UNC Department of Surgery. The Research Scientists will focus on synthetic chemistry and materials science, with an emphasis on biocompatible polymers; prosthetic graft modification and characterization; biodegradable stent synthesis and characterization; and cell adhesion, proliferation, migration, and viability. One translational focus of the lab involves synthesizing and characterizing grafts that provide renewable reservoirs of small molecule therapies at the site of vascular intervention to prevent complications that lead to graft occlusion. This position will be expected to function with substantial independence and expertise in original scholarship, research design/engineering, implementation of research procedures, data analysis, and interpretation of results. This position will also be expected to supervise others, including undergraduate students, medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians.
Education and Experience:
Prior experience and the ability to train and assist others in a team science research group is essential. The selected candidate must have good problem-solving skills, as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
