This research associatewill work on projects under the direction of Leslie B Hammer, Ph.D. Dr. Hammers research group is focused on improving the physical and mental well-being of workers through interventions designed to increase employee-supportive behaviors at all leadership levels. This research focuses on ways in which organizations can help reduce work and family stress and facilitate workplace supports such as Family Supportive Supervisor Behavior training. The group has studied workplace interventions with employee populations such as the grocery and service industry, health care, construction, information technology, and government, including military populations.
Thisresearcherwill work on the Military Employee Sleep & Health research project. Accordingly, duties will vary based on current project needs but primary focus will be on data management and analysis, preparation of published manuscripts in conjunction with other team members. Additionally, candidate may work directly with study participants including recruitment and providing information as part of intervention activities.
Current study focuses primarily on military populations (e.g., Veterans, National Guard), but data from other workplace intervention studies are available for analysis. Most studies include data that are nested within organizations or other units, as well as dyadic data (e.g., employee-supervisor, employee-spouse). Data alsoinclude actigraphy data (i.e., sleep tracking).Some within state travel will be required, approximately once per month.
Other duties,under the guidance of Dr. Hammer, will include: data management, making conference presentations, assisting with report generation to the Department of Defense, overseeing Human Subjects compliance, and other research activities as needed. This is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience and build a CV for a competitive academic position. PI will provide mentorship in development of independent grant submissions.
Masters degree with major courses in relevant field
3 years of relevant experience (i.e.,complex multi-level data analysis and related software likeM-Plus, SPSS).
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; Strong organizational skills needed to manage a complex project with multiple activities and stakeholders.
Demonstrated academic writing and presentation experience.
PhD or ABD in social sciences or public health
Research knowledge and experience in the substantive area of military psychology and/or work and family and/or sleep
Background in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or Occupational Health Psychology
Computer work, standing and sitting while using a computer or talking with participants. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
