The Pediatric Infectious Disease department is seeking a Research Assistant. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support for the NVSN project being conducted within the division of Infectious Disease with the Centers for Disease Control. The successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI), other investigators, and research staff in identifying potential research subjects, reviewing medical records, and enrolling subjects.
The Research Assistant will collect and process any protocol required specimens according to the methods defined in the research protocols and established standards and practices. He or she is responsible for collecting research data, including enrolling subjects, processing and organizing research samples for storage and shipping, labeling and recording specimens, operating simple lab equipment such as a centrifuge, delivering specimens to other departments, and other duties directed by the PI or division Clinical Research Manager. Careful attention to detail, excellent organizational, and computer skills required. Incumbent must be a team player at all levels. Prior research experience in IRB research education preferred. Bachelor's degree with 1 year relevant experience required.
Experience in coordinating clinical trials is preferred. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. Flexible day light hours may be necessary. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment.
