The Communications Specialist will implement media and communication strategies to support the DoD Child Development Virtual Lab School (DoDVLS) project initiatives including planning, developing, designing and implementing media strategies to publicize and promote the educational/training materials of the DoDVLS and related efforts. This position will proactively advance communication and media stories and respond to requests for information and interviews from campus or external publications and project stakeholders. This position will collaborate with Department of Defense, Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force stakeholders regarding media releases promoting the DoDVLS. In addition, the Communications Specialist will recommend timing of marketing and news releases. This position will be required to develop and cultivate university, local, state and national media contacts and sources. The communications specialist will serve as resource person and consultant for DoDVLS staff in dealing with media and public relations professionals from outside institutions and organizations. The Communications Specialist will consult with project staff on presentation strategies when discussing the DoDVLS. This position will draft formal reports and less formal communication for various project stakeholders, including items such as annual project reports to grant funders, quarterly newsletters for users, and monthly news updates the VLS site.
