Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) . Three (3) years of research experience in neurophysiology or neuroscience, to include at least one (1) year of research experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) .
PhD/MD (or foreign equivalent) in Physiology, Neurophysiology or Neuroscience. Three (3) years of experience in a neuroscience lab using murine models in social behavior research. Experience with performing surgery on mouse brains for the purposes of synaptic tracing.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Research Scientist to conduct independent research projects under the general guidance from the Principal Investigator.
The incumbent will perform complex and interrelated tasks for several studies supported by the National Institutes of Health and ensure progress in cutting edge research in the lab from the planning stage through plan execution and to analysis and presentation of project results.
The incumbent will develop, design and run research experiments and ensure that all research protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University, and adhere to state, federal and sponsor requirements. The Research Scientist will be responsible for laboratory operations.
Experimentation and data analysis in projects involving neuronal circuits defining social behavior, neural circuitry in reaction to novelty, differences in the neural circuitry of autism model mice in novelty and social interaction paradigms and monosynaptic tracing of connections formed by newborn neurons in the adult brain.
Coordinate and conduct research experiments with animal models utilizing specialized techniques in the field of neuroscience. Collect and archive research data.
Interact with internal and external constituents including collaborating groups, granting agencies and sponsors, institutional review boards and various regulatory agencies.
Responsible for the overall management of the lab, may supervise postdoctoral associate and research support positions. Will provide training on specific specialized skills and research methods, and is responsible for the operation of the lab to include preparation and shipment of lab samples, procurement, budgeting and billing administration and
Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals. Prepare grant proposals, apply for grants including writing proposals for research projects, identifying funding sources and training opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
