The Assistant Director works in concert with the Director and team members to ensure high levels of employee engagement and performance through positive employee interaction, as well as development and delivery of quality training and organizational development programs. This position will be responsible for successfully partnering with the HR colleagues & partners across campus to support the development of organizational capabilities that drive growth, advance the University's diverse and inclusive culture, create purposeful change, and provide innovative learning and organizational solutions to the University. The Assistant Director will support the design, planning, implementation, and delivery of VU's common/centralized training and organizational development programs while enabling, supporting, and partnering on unique/decentralized programming.
The Employee Learning & Organizational Effectiveness (ELOE) team, comprised of the Employee Learning & Engagement and Compensation & Organizational Effectiveness units within the People and Engagement group, is a key function within Vanderbilt University Human Resources. Support the operational and strategic objectives of the Office of Human Resources, the campus community, and the Group by leading and developing peers and collaborators through expertise and influence; bring rigorous approach, informed by results-oriented research and methods, to drive employee learning and engagement programs that are in demand and embraced by the campus community.
Support the implementation and support of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to increase the likelihood of welcoming new ideas and perspectives while creating a stronger, more talented workforce in partnership with the Diversity Recruitment & Outreach and Talent Fulfillment teams. Cultivate relationships with community partners, professional associations, and peer institutions, and network to identify, develop, and implement leading practices that enable the University to develop and retain highly qualified and diverse talent.
Engage with University leaders and campus partners using a high touch approach and involve/engage them in the design, implementation, utilization, and facilitation of processes related to the employee life cycle and employee experience. Seek out their substantive input while at the same time offering expert advice that fosters a trusting and collaborative partnership.
Make data-informed decisions that provide customer-centric solutions to existing and future problems by developing and analyzing metrics, dashboards and reports. Use the data to make improvements where needed and create new best practices to be shared with customers and across the Group and campus.
Collaborate and work closely cross-functionally within HR and with campus partners and leadership across divisions and colleagues operating in the employee learning space; produce narratives and written reports that analyze and interpret program results and other findings to share and assist stakeholders across the University.
Proactively support the assessment and development of learning focused programs and initiatives to enhance the employee experience, ensure that the knowledge building needs of the University are met, and better enable campus partners to manage performance and professional development for their teams. Implement creative ways to provide training for in-office and work-from-home leaders and employees to drive performance, support service delivery, and institutional initiatives.
Help develop and nurture an employee experience that translates to a high-quality working relationship and serves as the foundation for positive relations within departments, across the university community, and with those seeking to join the university in now and in the future. Keep employees informed and engaged by delivering a consistent and leading practice focused experience.
Actively seek out continual learning, development opportunities, and stretch assignments for ongoing career development. Participate in relevant conferences, trainings, webinars, and share best practices across the HR function, when appropriate.
Properly manages programs/solutions/initiatives from end-to-end, including engaging stakeholders, driving continuous improvement, and measuring behavior change/adoption/opportunities to help achieve desired outcomes.
Supports the cultivation of strategies to identify development opportunities and career planning for job families, facilitate informal mentoring, and provide campus leaders with insights and recommendations to meet organizational strategic initiatives while fostering the continued growth of the University culture.
Designs, implements, manages and evaluates employee engagement, recognition, and professional development programs and initiatives that links to career frameworks, competencies, and performance management programming and strategies.
Supports, reviews and assesses training needs of employees and departments based on skills, knowledge, experience, culture, and workforce changes; assist with and facilitate post-training gap analysis' and needs assessments through surveys, knowledge checks and focus groups to implement timely training feedback.
This position may provide administrative and functional supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff as well as student workers while also serving in a leadership capacity within the People & Engagement Group as well as representing their team on internal and external committees and initiatives. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director, Employee Learning & Organizational Effectiveness.
