Clinical Specialists (CS) play a vital role in the education of pre-licensure BSN and MSN students. The CS work collaboratively with Program Directors, School of Nursing faculty who are the lead instructors of specific courses with a clinical component, and the Simulation Center Coordinator. The attention of CSs is focused on student education in the clinical setting and the Simulation Center.Â Â
The responsibilities of Clinical Specialist include:
Assisting and collaborating with nursing faculty to analyze student requirements and ensure there are appropriate resources in the clinical facility or simulation center.
Supervising care provided by a group of students (usually 7 to 10 students in a group) while they complete their clinical and simulation rotation in the specialty area.
Coordinating with clinicians at the clinical site to make student assignments.
Teaching students how to perform skills and answering their questions.
Evaluating studentsâ™ clinical judgement and skills.
Organizing group conferences to assist students in preparing for and sharing clinical and simulation experiences to ensure compliance with lesson plan.
Training students to identify signs of patient health deterioration and clinical equipment malfunction to ensure achievement of all course objectives.
Coordinating with students and managing all communication to provide optimal level of practical training through simulation and clinical experiences.
Modeling professional communication and behaviors for students.
Demonstrating psychomotor skills to students in simulation and clinical settings.
Supervising and delivering evidence based clinical care with students in the simulation and clinical environment.
Hold an active license or be eligible for licensure as an RN in the state of New Jersey
