Essential Job Duties:
The Technician will assist with genotyping of small grains in high throughput setting. This includes DNA isolation and ploymerase chain reaction amplification. The position is responsible for calibrating and operating instrumentation. The Technician will track samples and collect end-point read data; reviewing for quality and providing reports. The Technician will operate varied equipment and instrumentation including automated liquid handlers, thermocyclers, and plate readers. The Technician will maintain inventory of DNA primers stocks and related consumables and maintain sanitation and safety procedures.
This is time-limited position for up to 2 years with possible extension dependent upon availability of funds.
This position is also part-time at 0.50 FTE (20 hours/week).
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Must have experience in good lab practices and setting up PCR reactions.
Must be able to use fluorescence plate reader and Kluster Caller software for data acquisition.
Must have experience in operation of automated liquid handlers, thermocyclers and plate readers used for high-throughput workflow.
Must have experience using Microsoft Excel (or similar software) for organizing sample information and data for analysis.
Bachelor’s Degree in plant genetics, biochemistry or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in genetics laboratory setting.
Required license or certification:
Valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
