The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The Team Coordinator is a member of the care service team and acts as a professional liaison for patients and families, care providers, as well as other SCCA departments. The role uses critical thinking skills to facilitate and operationalize complex scheduling requests through heavy use of multiple computer systems. The scope of responsibilities include working independently to check in and schedule patients for imaging exams and procedures done in the Imaging Department at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), the SCCA Mobile Mammography program and the Roosevelt Mammography Outpatient Center for the University of Washington.
Effective communication with the patients, the department supervisors and leads and outside physicians offices is required. The individual works independently and is expected to use initiative and sound judgment to accomplish their duties in an accurate and timely manner. They must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient confidentiality of all medical, financial or other sensitive material relate to patient care in accordance with HIPAA laws.
Works closely with patients, families, visitors, providers and staff to identify needs, answer questions, resolve problems, provide information and follow up
Communicates with providers (physicians, therapists, etc.) technologists, and nurses regarding the patient's scheduling needs, treatment schedule, and additional requests. Notifies appropriate parties as needed.
Manages and prioritizes scheduling requests
Recognizes emergency situations and initiates correct code procedures
Supports the overall function of the department, and may be required to take on additional duties such as cross coverage, special projects, etc.
Assists with the training of new staff
High school graduate or equivalent
One year of customer service experience
Ability to work independently, organizing, and prioritizing concurrent responsibilities and demands
Ability to work in a high pressure, time-sensitive, and complex health care environment
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and empathy in an emotionally challenging environment
Active listening skills
Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, and use email in a business setting
Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear and concise manner
Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately
Attention to detail to ensure scheduling accuracy
Bachelor's degree (BA or BS)
Previous medical office/hospital experience coordinating physician appointments and patient services
Familiarity with medical terminology
Prior experience utilizing an electronic medical record system and/or an automated scheduling system

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
