Working under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Educational Technology and Innovation, the Education Specialist/Instructional Designer will work with WUSM faculty and staff to design, create, and deliver instructional materials and related digital media in support of learning, teaching, assessment, and improving student outcomes. The Education Specialist/Instructional Designer will assist with promotion and outreach of instructional design services and related efforts across the School of Medicine.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate and Create
Collaborate with WUSM faculty and staff, providing instruction on the design of courses and sessions, including team-based learning sessions and flipped classroom sessions.
Support subject matter experts in the creation of content for their courses and instruction sessions.
Provide assistance with the creation of course material/media supporting student learning objectives.
Work collaboratively with other School of Medicine curriculum support staff to create interactive videos and other multimedia for instruction needs.
Liaise with WashU Information Technology and other school instructional designers and education specialists to solve common problems and maximize use of available tools, services, spaces, and resources.
Promote available instructional design services within the School of Medicine community.
Develop and manage multiple project plans.
Establish deadlines with project partners, lead project meetings, and effectively communicate project milestones.
Work in collaboration with the Office of Education to establish priority assignments.
Instructional Design Service and Consultation
Provide consultation and training on educational technologies and course/session design to the WUSM community.
Provide support in the design and creation of instructional materials for WUSM faculty through the utilization of appropriate in-person, blended, and online instruction solutions based on best practices, educational research, and appropriate assessment methods.
Assist in resolving copyright and fair use issues for instructional materials in collaboration with Becker Medical Library staff.
Participate in School of Medicine community activities and professional development.
As helpful to the institution, attend and present at professional conferences.
As needed, travel to on-campus and off-campus sites to provide collaborative support for instructional content/media.
Other duties as assigned.
Associate degree or higher in education, nursing, or another field relevant to the educational activities of the department.
Experience in development of educational/training materials.
Master’s degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field.
Knowledge of instructional design principles and pedagogical modalities frequently used in health professions education (e.g., active learning, team-based learning, etc.).
Experience with current educational technologies and their applications in professional education settings.
Experience with learning management systems including or similar to Canvas.
Experience with multimedia and graphic design software and web design tools.
Experience articulating emerging learning technologies and collaboration tools to a wide community that includes faculty, professional staff, and School of Medicine partners.
Three years’ experience as an instructional designer, or equivalent mix of education and practical experience.
Experience in medical education, health professions education, or healthcare setting.
Teaching or administrative experience with the Canvas LMS.
Demonstrated ability in web conferencing tools, presentation software, and relevant emerging technologies.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team which includes faculty, curriculum staff, and IT staff.
Ability to foster collaborations both internally and externally, demonstrated through a proven record of effective collaboration with colleagues, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and apply new technologies, tools, techniques, and methodologies.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated Microsoft office suite abilities.

The hiring range for this position is $56,472 - $73,403 annually.
