The England Lab is seeking a motivated candidate to engage in NIH-funded research and manage a broad research portfolio in a laboratory focusing on the molecular and electrical pathways underlying parturition. Our work has been on the forefront of understanding the role of both sodium and potassium channels in regulating uterine excitability. Our studies utilize a variety of methodologies, and both mouse and human models to understand the basic channel biology that underlie the process of labor. The Senior Scientist will be joining the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences within the department of obstetrics and gynecology, the latter of which includes a number of federally funded laboratories and a strong research infrastructure in both basic and clinical investigation in reproductive health.
This position is responsible for collaborating with the Principal Investigator on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with PI on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
Prepares and submits papers on research.
Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintaining required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience.
Analytical reasoning and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
Five years of experience in a professional research laboratory after conferral of a doctoral degree (Ph.D. and/or M.D.) in academia, industry, or biotech.
Record of prior achievement, including either research funding/publications, etc.
Ability to manage their own project and work with a team of investigators.
Supervisory or mentoring experience.
Expertise in reproductive biology and/or ion channel biology.
Proficiency in career skills, including writing, public speaking, networking, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
Proficiency in presenting scientific data with excellent oral communication skills.
The hiring range for this position is $53,830 - $72,675 annually.
