The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks an accomplished lecturer and technical director/production manager for a one-year temporary appointment. The Carson School has a unique affiliation with the Nebraska Repertory Theatre (NRT), Nebraska's only Equity professional theatre.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with students and a strong team of faculty artists, scholars and staff in a vibrant School of Theatre and Film which offers both BFA and MFA degrees in Theatre. The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film houses the Nebraska Repertory Theatre as its production entity.
The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film (Carson School) is the premier training program of theatre and film artists in the region, thanks to the philanthropic support from the late Johnny Carson, whose endowment to the School provides substantial support for technology, programs, and scholarships.
Founded in 1968 and relaunched in 2017, the Nebraska Repertory Theatre is Nebraska's only Equity Theatre. The Nebraska Rep is housed in the Johnny Carson School, and works in close collaboration with resident faculty and staff, and the Carson School's production infrastructure. Students work closely with these artists/professionals with opportunities that range from cast members to designers, dramaturgs, assistant directors, and stage managers. Previous guests include Ron Himes, Founder and Producing Director of the Saint Louis Black Repertory Company and Steve Scott, Producer, the Goodman Theatre.
The Johnny Carson School is a NAST accredited institution and member of U/RTA offering the BA, BFA, and MFA in Theatre Arts with substantial endowments for technology/programmatic support/upgrades and vision for the future. The Carson School is part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts that, through its endowment, further supports the theatre faculty and students by funding a professional film series, scholarships, student and faculty travel, and productions for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching: two courses per semester at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels, including intro to technical theatre, technical direction/management, AutoCAD and Fusion 360 drafting. Other courses may be possible based on the candidate's expertise.
Other: Oversee all levels of technical direction and production management including but not limited to production resources oversight in conjunction with the school director; coordinate production/design meetings, design deadlines with area advisors, and help manage production personnel; and supervise student workers and staff personnel in scene and prop shops, rigging systems, and project management.
Additional duties may be required as assigned by the Director of the School of Theatre and Film. An emphasis is placed on safety, quality and the ability to support diversity.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
MFA in theatre, technical theatre or related degree
The ability to demonstrate current best industry-based practices.
A strong mastery of the technological tools involved in Theatre technical production
Possess a variety of experiences working with varied materials, tools, methodologies and system operations
Experience working in a variety of professional theatre scales (i.e.: SPT and LORT)
