A job with Student Affairs Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Affairs Marketing staff will contribute to the strategy, creation, and implementation of various marketing and communications initiatives.
This position reports to the Director of Student Affairs Marketing and works closely with various members of the Student Affairs Marketing team and professional staff/clients from around the IMU, Health Center, Dean of Students Office, and many more departments within Student Affairs.
The Communications Coordinator strategizes and writes for a number of different mediums. This position is primarily responsible for researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and collaborating with various clients and team members. Writes and edits advertising copy, blurbs for digital communications, blog posts and more. Serves as a proofreader for all print and digital campaigns and pieces that Student Affairs Marketing produces. Responsible for keeping projects on task and on deadline, making sure everyone has the information they need for campaigns, and conducting interviews of colleagues and students for various stories when necessary.
Works closely with graphic designers, videographers, and social media coordinators to produce creative copy solutions for various platforms.
Develops creative solutions and writes copy for advertising campaigns.
Researches, interviews, writes, edits, and publishes articles, blurbs, and press releases.
Maintains the Student Affairs Blog, and posts new blog entries.
Makes minor website updates as necessary.
Copyedits and proofreads long-form publications, campaigns, and other communications.
Works on writing and editing recurring communications by the Division including weekly and monthly emails, newsletters, and other pieces.
Sets up various email marketing campaigns for the Division using Salesforce email marketing system.
When necessary, strategizes marketing solutions through collaboration of clients and team members.
Current Indiana University student.
Experience as a writer and editor. Experience writing some combination of articles, blog posts, and/or ad copy. Understanding of proper grammar and punctuation rules. Fine attention to detail. Ability to maintain professionalism, dependability, and respect for others. Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy. Exceptional communication skills. Ability to perform well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere . Motivated, with a willingness to strive for ongoing improvement. Ability to receive constructive criticism in order to improve skillset. Positive customer service attitude. Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
Understanding of effective marketing tactics. Passion for writing and language. Experience with creative writing. Strong sense of curiosity and creativity. Passionate about learning.
