Academic Counselor/Graduate Intern The Center for Advising and Academic Success (CAAS) at Whittier College seeks an Academic Counselor/Graduate Intern.
Hours: Monday - Saturday, 19 hours per week Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Full Time/Part Time status: Part Time Salary Range: $15 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.
Reports to: Associate Director of CAAS
Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/CAAS
Responsibilities: Provide academic counseling for students on academic Probation, Warning, PEAP, and mid-semester warnings; document and track progress. Advise undergraduate students on academic policies, liberal education requirements, and major exploration. Assist the Associate Director and Assistant Director with providing support services for the First Year Student Enrichment Program, Academic Coaching Program participants, and the Student-Athlete Academic Support Program participants. May assist Administrative Support Program Coordinator with developing content for the Academic Success Workshops. Assist the CAAS team with coordination and implementation of annual Exploring Majors Event (Fall semester only). Assist with researching and developing programing focused on improving student retention and graduation rates. Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of Academic Success Program; assist with producing semester assessment reports. Other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications and Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in education, psychology, counseling, or related field, or equivalent experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Qualified candidates should have experience working with students in academic support environments, programming events, and counseling/advising techniques. Candidates will also have insight into the needs of first-generation and/or underrepresented college students, and a commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education.
