JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Assistant performsa variety of basic research experiments in the Smith Laboratory within thePediatrics Department. Assists with researchprotocols that include lab maintenance, supply inventory, specificresearch projects, and assistance in manuscript and grant preparation.
Conducts laboratory experiments, including cell culture, maintenance of viral and bacterial stocks, viral and bacterial titering, mouse infections, tissue harvest, drug preparation and administration in animals, animal colony maintenance, cell preparation for flow cytometry, histology, immunohistochemistry, ELISAs, DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, and a variety of other assays conducted in the laboratory.
Aides the principal investigator and other laboratory personnel with data collection and analysis for research projects.
Collects, enters, and analyzes quantitative data.
Compiles documentation and reports of experiments to the principal investigator. Maintains accurate records of experiments and protocols.
Formats experimental data and presents it in a clear and concise manner.
Supports the principal investigator with publishing data and with grant and manuscript preparation as needed. Conducts literature searches and systematic reviews.
Maintains laboratory records, monitors and maintains lab or departmental inventory, and orders supplies as required.
Prepares chemical reagents and solutions properly.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
