This full-time faculty member will be responsible for coordinating clinical education for the Surgical Technology Program under the guidance of the Dean of Health Professions and Department Chair of Surgical Technology. This faculty member will be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, development and planning, and general effectiveness of the clinical component of the Surgical Technology Program, as well as teaching assigned courses within the program as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the department chair in assuring that the Surgical Technology program meets standards established by the college and the Accreditation Review Council on Education in the Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting of Surgical Technology Programs (ARC/STSA) by planning, implementing, and continuously evaluating program outcomes.
Establishes, maintains and manages the clinical sites to ensure that students are offered the variety of experiences necessary to achieve programmatic goals.
Initiates and maintains up to date contracts with all clinical facilities.
Teaches classroom lectures/labs, simulation labs and coordinates/supervises up to 16 hours per week in the clinical setting.
Maintains attendance, academic, and other records and submits information and reports to the department chair in a timely manner as required by the College, State Licensure Boards, and/or ARC/STSA.
Assists in the development of the Surgical Technology curriculum, course content, and the selection of textbooks, library materials, and equipment/supplies to facilitate learning Surgical Technology.
Assists in developing departmental budget, prioritizing expenditures, and maintaining inventory of existing equipment/supplies.
Takes an active interest in and incorporates simulation education into didactic and clinical teaching.
Demonstrates an ability to teach and motivate in ways appropriate to the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and learning styles of the community college student. Facilitates the application of theory to practice, motivates and stimulates independent learning, uses and demonstrates current technical advances in the field of Surgical Technology and teaching, and works cooperatively with program faculty as a team member.
Participates in all college meetings including department meetings as outlined by the collective bargaining agreement.
Maintains communication with established clinical sites via site visits, telephone calls, email and written correspondence to monitor student performance and clinical needs.
Maintains professional credential by attendance in workshops, conferences, and other activities designed to award continuing education credits. Maintains current Massachusetts license, current BLS certification and CST credential.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate professionally and manage potentially difficult situations.
Promotes the College's mission, goals, and objectives and performs all other duties as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $44,168.00 - $57,000.00 per year, plus fringe benefits. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of the MCCC/MTA Agreement based on the candidate's academic credentials, related experience, related licenses and certifications.

Minimum of an Associates Degree required, Bachelors degree or higher preferred.
A minimum of four years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
A minimum of two years' experience teaching in an accredited Surgical Technology program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
Must have recent practice and competent direct care skills in clinical settings.
A valid Surgical Technology credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students in the community college.
Must be a current member of the Association of Surgical Technologists.
Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and a National background check as a condition of employment.
Candidate may be required to clear a 9-10 panel urine drug screen per clinical placement policy as a condition of employment.
