The University of Texas Permian Basin invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director, Strategic Analytics. The Executive Director will execute policies and operational initiatives for the Office of Strategic Analytics. This position is responsible for system-wide research, data analysis, and reporting, as well as the technical and functional oversight of the Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse reporting environment (SAS). The Executive Director will be responsible for providing leadership to the department and developing a long-term vision to effectively support UTPB in developing greater capacity in predictive and summative analytics system-wide.
This position reports directly to the President and is a member of the Executive Cabinet.
The Executive Director provides leadership for the development and administration of the department, working with all levels of internal leadership and external constituents to create and sustain systems for evaluating performance on critical learning, service, and administrative outcomes. This position oversees all facets of a comprehensive analytics and institutional research program for the University.
While this position is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, it will also actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the unit. The successful candidate will be able to diagnose and resolve functional and technical problems independently. S/he will be aware of national trends toward data science and be able to effectively use data to tell a story. S/he will have the ability to effectively articulate data to leadership and work collaboratively with individuals possessing varying technical and research backgrounds. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director will collaborate with Academic and other business units to identify strategic goals and research needs in order to promote evidence-based decision-making to improve institutional effectiveness. This includes but is not limited to: • Lead the office that is the analytical Hub for all strategic initiatives • Lead University–wide projects assigned by the President • Executive leader in all aspects of analytics related to the Strategic Plan • Key partner with VP enrollment management, AVP Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Success for all things related to enrollment/student success. Part of a high functioning team leading the most important strategic directive in our Plan. (This role will lead the analytics and will develop campaigns targeting enrollment, student experience, student success). Helpful in implementation of SLATE CRM • Head up Institutional research function (3 professional staff are current direct reports) • Will establish and implement data camps and analytics teams across all functional areas, including faculty department chairs, deans, etc. • Will be supported to become a national leader in analytics to drive performance (in conjunction with SAS analytics worldwide); also system leader in the UT system • Will lead efforts to develop an analytics center on campus connected with community and regional analytics programs; center will engage in projects that impact the region • Will partner with Marketing and communication to use analytics campaigns to target recruit students, increase the profile of the university, etc. • Will develop analytics aimed at optimizing financial aid/endowed scholarship to recruit and retain students • Will develop visual analytics dashboards for all aspects of the strategic plan; will use these analytics to lead executive discussions in cabinet meetings, Deans meetings, etc. • Will be a leader to develop and implement campaigns to increase Hispanic college participation in the region • Directs and oversees the department’s strategic and operational initiatives, providing strategic vision and operational leadership. Directs the creation and dissemination of information and services that empower accountability, continuous improvement, and informed planning. • Continuously reviews, analyzes, and evaluates departments or other units seeking continuous improvement • Will provide consistent, accurate and official reporting of institutional data to comply with and fulfil routine and specific internal and external requests • Develops external relationship with vendors, community groups, and organizations • Assists with ensuring departmental compliance with all applicable internal and external rules, regulations, guidelines and university policies • Leads cross-functional teams that conduct in-depth analyses if current and emerging strategies for profiling by local area high school and industry segmentation • In conjunction with VP for Enrollment Management, implements collaborative strategies that focus on increasing enrollment and relationships with local area high schools and community colleges • Serves as a liaison on committees, task forces, and other work groups • Serves on executive-level committees to assist in the development of the University strategic planning policies and procedures • Other duties, as assigned
SCHEDULE: This is an exempt 12-month position and expected work schedule is Monday through Friday. As an exempt employee this schedule may vary based on the number of hours needed to meet the job responsibilities. The individual holding this position may need to be available early mornings, evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the office.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s degree required (analytics concentration preferred); Ph.D, Ed.D, DBA or equivalent degree is preferred • Five (5) years of Institutional Research or Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse experience, reporting and using data to inform decision-making. Experience must include: • Institutional effectiveness in higher education • Higher education data management and reporting • Predictive analytics • Data collection, analysis and interpretation, project management and assessment, database management, and experience with institutional assessment and effectiveness • Accreditation reporting requirements, preferably previous work with SACSCOC • Supervisory experience • Strong multi-tasking abilities • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to meet goals and implement strategies • The ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
