The Department of Medicine, Division of General Medicine within the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) is looking for an innovative instructional designer to assist in the design and development of online courses for advanced degree and training programs in clinical and translational science.
The position requires strong skills in course design, aesthetics, educational technology, and project management. The instructional designer must be able to do the following: - Research-based course design principles to help faculty create robust and engaging instructional materials - Present online content in a manner that is clean, organized, visually interesting, and aesthetically appealing as well as pedagogically sound - Be comfortable learning from and working with a range of learning management systems, authoring tools, and educational technologies - Manage multiple projects, including identifying steps, creating timelines, monitoring incoming work, and maintaining an organized and efficient system for tracking progress
This position requires the ability to work independently, solve problems, communicate clearly and tactfully, and work enthusiastically and collaboratively with faculty, the IDEA Lab team, and ICRE staff.
Master's degree and academic background in instructional or curriculum design preferred. However, relevant work experience and demonstrated course design, project management, and technical skills are more important than a specific degree. 3-5 years of experience engaged in instructional design for online courses in higher education required. Prior experience working with scientific and quantitative curriculum or familiarity with such content from a math or science based program will be highly considered.
Must be able to demonstrate a record of working effectively with faculty from diverse disciplines. Must have experience and facility with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas as well as a wide range of digital tools for learning. Strong skills with Articulate Studio is beneficial and proficiency in Captivate is necessary. Should be able to show examples of work.
