Metropolitan State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, and recipient of the 2019 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire an Associate Director of Alumni Relations. This is a full-time position within the University Advancement division.
The Associate Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for engaging alumni to increase their affiliation with the university. Working with volunteers, university advancement staff, marketing, and communications staff, and students, the associate director is responsible for producing the alumni e-newsletter, soliciting, writing, and editing alumni and university news for buzz magazine, maintaining a social media presence for Alumni Relations, and recruiting and engaging volunteers. They will assist with event planning and evaluation. The Associate Director participates in donor discovery and qualification for fundraising. They will function as an integral member of the University Advancement prospect development team, identifying, cultivating, and stewarding potential fundraising prospects.
This is a full-time position within the University Advancement division.
Develop and manage a social media and electronic communication strategy for event promotion, alumni recognition, and enhance engagement to achieve University Advancement Division goals.
Identify, write, and edit alumni and university news items for buzz magazine to engage stakeholders.
Evaluate communications tools and vendors and make recommendations for resource allocation
Identifies new communication channel opportunities and establishes project goals and evaluation metrics.
Plan and implement alumni engagement events
Represent the university at public functions
Increase student awareness of the alumni association and create activities to cultivate the next generation of engaged alumni.
Design post-event evaluations and present data for assessment and planning
Prospect Identification, Cultivation and Stewardship
Cultivate targeted alumni segments for volunteer opportunities serving the university.
Work collaboratively with development directors and co-execute joint projects.
Manage a portfolio of prospects for cultivation and stewardship
Participate in alumni engagement activities that support fundraising objectives.
Provides work direction to Alumni Relations graduate assistant.
Responds to and resolves alumni requests for university information and service.
Respond to data requests from university colleges and departments.
Create reports to present to the directors of the Alumni Board.

Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience working for a non-profit or higher-ed organization in a recruiting, communication, fundraising or event planning capacity, or three years of professional experience working for a non-profit or higher-ed organization in a recruiting, communication, fundraising, or event planning function, or Master's degree plus one year of professional experience working for a non-profit or higher-ed organization in a recruiting, communication, fundraising or event planning function.
Professional experience managing both print and electronic communication projects to completion in a deadline-driven environment.
Experience working collaboratively to execute team goals as team lead and contributing partner.
Advanced knowledge of social media best practices for non-profit or higher ed organizations.
Demonstrated strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
One or more years of experience working in higher education in a development or Alumni Relations function.
Experience planning events for external stakeholders.
Excellent professional writing skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of Alumni or Community Relations best practices
Experience executing a social media or electronic communication strategy for an external audience.
Experience speaking at public events.
Experience working with print vendors.
Experience providing excellent service to alumni, donors, or organizational stakeholders.
Experience with Raiser's Edge database.
Experience translating complex Alumni Relations strategy to internal and external stakeholders (for example, deans, university departments, and administration).
Physical Requirements of the Job: This position requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

The School/Academic Department: The University Advancement Division provides development services and support to Metropolitan State University. The division oversees alumni relations, resource development, a grants program, and plans and executes multi-dimensional fundraising campaigns with corporate, foundation, alumni and individual donor constituencies. The division also houses the Metropolitan State University Foundation, a separate 501(c)3 corporation guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees.
Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $43,138 (minimum) to $74,719 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.
