Summary: The position will supervise and provide instruction for anatomical laboratories. Laboratories will span several medical and allied-health fields, so the individual will interact with physical therapy, osteopathic, physician assistant, podiatry, and Master of Anatomy students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervise and provide anatomical laboratory instruction in all anatomy department courses with a required laboratory component and ensure that all safety procedures and protocols are enforced.
Meet regularly with the appropriate anatomical course director and/or the chair to: write, design, and organize specific skills-based lessons conduct lecture instruction, prosections of human body donor specimens, and assist in integrating the use of medical imaging in the anatomy laboratory (plain film, CT/MRI, ultrasound). facilitate classes by instructing and evaluating learner performance during lab. plan and report laboratory learning activities, including practical examination setup and proctoring. Coordinate anatomy lab calendar to ensure courses are scheduled appropriately and ready to support the learners at DMU.
Manage and coordinate teaching assistants for the anatomy lab. This includes but not limited to: screen and interview applicants. process hire according to DMU procedures. coordinate the scheduling of teaching assistants to assure coverage for all labs. provide training, direction, and support, according to specific course needs. guide prosection of human body donor specimens for ongoing laboratory courses. review and approve time records for teaching assistants. address any performance issues.
Assist with preparation and planning of anatomy lab budget each year, including assisting with ordering and stocking of lab supplies.
Provide assistance with body donor program as needed.
Attend regular department faculty meetings.
Participate in and successfully complete all university required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has oversight of teaching assistants in the anatomy lab. The position will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, motivating, and/or training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; approving of salary recommendations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of Master’s degree; Doctorate degrees encouraged to apply. Degrees in the anatomical sciences or related field required.
Experience in anatomical laboratory instruction required.
Ultrasound experience preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Essential Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Basic computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc.) related to lecture and laboratory work is required.
Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to handle reagents safely and perform laboratory work under conditions of universal precautions against biohazards to prevent self-contamination or contamination of the environment.
Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills.
