Job Description Summary
The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The primary function of this position is to carry out advanced in vivo and in vitro experiments in breast cancer research. Research approaches will include the use of animal models of breast cancer and utilize various cell and molecular biology techniques. The job will include a combination of independent studies focused around multi-faceted team driven projects as well as providing Post-Doc support. Special emphasis is placed on molecular biology techniques. Duties will include conducting pre-clinical drug studies involving rodent models. Responsibilities will also include breeding colony management, genotyping, histology, survival surgery, and tissue harvest, as well as maintaining records and material stocks. Cell and molecular work may require experience in cloning, PCR, Q-PCR, western & northern blotting, tissue culture, and flow cytometry. Excellent communication & organizational skills are essential as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.
BA/BS degree in Biology or a related field and 1-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Â The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and have the skill and confidence to work independently. Â Experience with multicolored flow cytometry and cell culture is required. Experience in the following technical areas will also be useful: DNA/RNA isolation, cDNA/cRNA preparation, q-PCR, and immuno-fluorescent and histochemical microscopy. Â Excellent communication, analytical, computer, and organizational skills are essential, as well as keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.
