The University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. The position is full-time and tenured with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with experience. Anticipated start date is Summer 2021. This position has an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30]. The Chair will be expected to build an inclusive climate for trainees, staff and faculty.
The Department of Physiology and Biophysics has a distinguished history and is consistently ranked amongst the top departments of its discipline. The department is renowned for its innovative research and for the quality of its teaching programs. Research in the department aims to explain fundamental physiological processes, across a very broad range of scales, at the molecular, cellular, tissue, and organismal levels. Department faculty play pivotal roles in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research training and fostering medical student education in the five state WWAMI region of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

Successful candidates will have earned a PhD, MD, or foreign equivalent and will have demonstrated excellence in research, medical education and administration.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
