Part-time Assistant Clinical Professor (Evergreen) MSW Program
Position Description: The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applicants for a part-time, non-tenure position as an assistant clinical professor in the Master of Social Work Program. Part-time faculty will develop and/or teach online, hybrid, and in-person courses.
The accelerated program offers a specialization in healthcare social work. In the traditional sequence for students with baccalaureate degrees in any field, the hybrid curriculum is delivered over four consecutive trimesters. In the advanced standing sequence for students with baccalaureate degrees in social work, the hybrid curriculum is delivered over three consecutive trimesters.
The curriculum is designed to meet the competency-based educational model of the Council on Social Work Education. It includes coursework on generalist practice, followed by specialized practice coursework in healthcare social work.
Teaching is the primary focus at the University. We aspire to promote student learning within a humanistic environment that facilitates student success to be competent self-directed learners. The role of the part-time instructional faculty within the MSW Program at University of the Pacific is to provide instruction and develop courses as assigned in areas of knowledge and expertise.
The successful faculty candidate will be part of a highly motivated, cohesive faculty of experienced educators working as an interdisciplinary team to deliver a forward-thinking MSW curriculum designed to meet the 2015 CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other MSW faculty members within the program to provide expertise and contribute to a collaborative working environment. This position will report directly to the MSW Program Director.
Job Description and Responsibilities Include:
Teach or co-teach online, hybrid, or online courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities.
Create or co-create online, hybrid, or in-person course content and materials in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities, including but not limited to: o Course syllabus o Reading assignments o Lectures o Outlines and scripts for videos, voice-over presentations, podcasts, and similar o Quizzes and exams o Discussion boards o Assignments o Assessments o Student guidance o Instructions o Overviews o Other teaching materials
Create a student-centered learning environment.
Prepare lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective teaching.
Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
Grade learning activities and provide timely constructive feedback.
Mentor student-directed scholarly work.
Provide academic advising and professional mentorship.
Perform other duties as assigned. Compensation will be based on experience and the specific responsibilities of the course.
Basic Qualifications: The following qualifications are essential: MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program At least three years of post-MSW practice experience in health care Ability to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students. Knowledge, skills, and experience in working with diverse students Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written modalities Ability to create materials for in-person and online learning using diverse teaching methods that support student engagement. Computer and online systems literacy Content expertise in masters generalist courses and/or specialty content areas related to healthcare social work, including: o Health and social welfare policy/advocacy o Social, behavioral, psychological interventions for patients/clients in health settings o Research and evaluation for healthcare, including community based approaches o Health social work, community and inpatient, including medical/hospital social work in speciality areas o Mental health diagnosis and intervention in healthcare o Diabetes care and management o Social work in health and aging o Trauma-informed practice o Substance abuse assessment and treatment in healthcare settings
Additional Qualifications: The following qualifications are desirable:
Academic experience in bachelor or master of social work education Experience with developing and providing didactic lectures and clinical skills training to masters level social work, healthcare and mental health clinicians. Experience with online pedagogy, including synchronous and asynchronous delivery. Familiarity with Canvas, Zoom and other systems and tools for course management and online learning. Experience with interprofessional healthcare practice and education. Doctoral Degree in social work or related field. Clinical social work licensure or eligibility for licensure. Clinical supervision experience with MSW students and graduates. Doctoral degree in social work or related field. Practice specialization in one or more of the following areas: o Medical/hospital social work o Aging, palliative care, rehabilitation o Community health o Community mental health o Integrated behavioral health care o Healthcare evaluation/management o Healthcare policy/advocacy
Emphasis on social justice oriented social work practice in teaching and professional work. Strong knowledge, skills and experience in working with diverse students and client/patient populations. Awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population through cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other professional experiences. Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service throughout ones career.
