The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions is seeking a full time Research Assistant to support the day-to-day activities of The Prime Time Sister Circle Research Study (PTSC) and the Black Men’s Health Project (BMHP).
The mission of the Black Men’s Health Project is to gain a deeper understanding of the unique health challenges of Black men and develop culturally competent strategies and solutions to improve the health outcomes for Black men. A key component of the BMHP is the Black Men’s Health Survey (BMHS)—a planned longitudinal study of Black men’s health. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting research and gathering valuable data and insights through the Black Men’s Health Survey.
The Prime Time Sister Circle (PTSC) is an evaluation of a community-based intervention for African-American women ages 40-75 to take control of their CVD health. It is a collaboration with the HCHDS, the Gaston Porter Health Improvement Center, and the American Institutes for Research and the Unity Health Care. The Research Assistant will plan, organize and coordinate recruitment and follow up meetings. The Research Assistant must maintain ongoing relationships with the study participants and multi-sector partners. Significant sample size and gain in-depth perspectives on Black Male health across the nation. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting research and gathering valuable data and insights through the Black Men’s Health Survey.
Specific Duties/ Responsibilities
Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols and reporting requirements
Participate in administering and reviewing surveys at meeting sessions
Recruit research participants
Verify participant eligibility for study
Interview research study subjects
Read through and verbally administer survey to attendees on as-needed basis
Participate in data collection, management and calculations
Generate and summarize data into reports to share with PI
Maintain accurate, up to date files and records in excel and Red Cap
Assist in scoring, coding and verifying research data

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
