Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Assistant – Per Diem, for the Sabaawy Lab at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant position is to support all aspects of research efforts in a study of brain tumors, including biospecimen collection, maintaining databases, utilizing three-dimensional (3D) culture techniques to maintain patient derived cells under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, performing mouse mating and colony maintenance, and PCR genotyping experiments to generate genetically engineered mouse models, and monitoring progress toward achieving the study goals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, performs experiments independently or as assigned, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
Conducts a continuous program of research and development regarding genetically engineered mouse model maintenance, constantly evaluates existing procedures where required to keep methodology and procedures, collection of data, and preparation of reports current.
Generates, compiles, and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
Attends regular team meetings to assist in the design of experiments and will provide support with general laboratory maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelors’ Degree in Health-Related science or health/clinical background plus one or more years of field experience in maintaining genetically engineered mouse models.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills; must be a team player; must be highly attentive to detail and very organized.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends), as needed, to reach and complete surveys with study subjects required.
