Summary: The Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and implementing medium to large, complex technology and customer oriented projects in accordance with departmental practices and procedures to ensure consistency with Des Moines University strategic goals. This position is looked to for on-going process improvements directed at providing improved customer support through professionally managed and predictable projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manage multiple projects for Information Technology Services, providing a single point of contact to project team and stakeholders. Take projects from original concept through final implementation. Define project scope, goals and deliverables.
Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, communication plans, and status reports.
Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track and review vendor deliverables.
Motivate, coach and mentor project team members.
Create reports defining project progress, problems and solutions.
Document and manage project issues, risks, and changes.
Develop, document and implement project management processes and procedures based on best practice project management methodologies.
Train ITS project leads and coordinators on project management processes.
Assist ITS Leadership with project governance and portfolio management.
Oversee management and administration of project management tools and systems.
Oversee and complete the collection of detailed requirements, analysis of business needs, and validation of solutions with the client.
Develop professionally through workshops, conferences, seminars, and literature.
Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has oversight of the Business Analyst. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing and/or motivating and/or training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; approval of salary recommendations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business Computer Science, MIS, or related field.
Two (2) years of project management or directly related experience required.
Demonstrated experience with project management software.
Business analysis and technical project management experience a plus.
Experience deploying infrastructure and/or implementing large enterprise applications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid or current PMP certification or eligible for certification preferred.
Essential Skills: Knowledge in project management tools and methodology is required.
Excellent communications skills including but not limited to; written, verbal and interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated ability to working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Intermediate to advanced PC and MS Office knowledge and skills.
Intermediate to excellent organizational, time management and presentation skills. Excellent strategic thinking and problem solving skills.
