Research Assistant Animal Tech The Translational Research Laboratory (TRL) within the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School invites applications for the Research Technician role in our laboratory. We seek outstanding applicants with a BS degree in animal science, physiology, biology, or closely related field. Applicants are expected to have an excellent academic record and a strong interest for clinical applications.
The candidate should be open-minded, ingenious, energetic, and exhibit a willingness to learn small and large animal rodent surgeries. The candidate MUST be comfortable working with and handling mice, rats, rabbits, and pigs. Candidates with an Emergency Medical Technician certification or previous surgical experience will be given preference. The successful candidate's primary role will be as lead large animal research technician.
Under the direct supervision of the PI, they will assist with large animal studies designed to evaluate a number of gas-based technologies as intravenous gas carriers. Responsibilities include basic large animal husbandry, pre-surgical planning, instrument preparation, pre-operative preparation, animal preparation, participating with intra-operative procedures, and post-operative management. The candidates will also be expected to compile and analyze all relevant physiologic data.
Additional responsibilities may also include: small animal surgical procedures and fabrication of gas-based carriers. The candidate will also share light managerial responsibilities (ordering lab supplies, etc.) with other lab technicians.

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
