Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The RADD lab (Research in Autism and Developmental Disabilities) at Michigan State University is looking for an individual to serve as the research assistant to support a large grant funded research project developing and testing a paraeducator/teacher training program to support preschool aged children with complex communication needs. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with schools and study participants, keeping open communication with the research team about research progress, sending reminders/agendas for scheduled meetings, participant recruitment, data collection, video upload, coordination of video coding through assignment to the research assistants, supporting development and revisions of training materials, organizing and gathering participant consent and other paperwork throughout the study, and supporting the PI by notifying of any challenges with the research. The research assistant will also be expected to support the RADD lab generally through open communication with the research team, research assistants, school and study participants – including coordinating weekly team and lab meetings. The research assistant will be expected to travel to preschool partner sites across mid-Michigan.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
The candidate should maintain professionalism in all interactions, possess strong communication and organizational skills, and follow all established research protocol for the project. The candidate will also oversee and support graduate and undergraduate research assistants on the project. The candidate should be competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, use of email, and video conferencing technology, and be competent or willing to learn video recording skills, iMovie video editing, and Datavyu video coding. The candidate may also be expected to conduct literature reviews, support data management, organize participant materials, and prepare data for analysis - all under the direction of the Primary Investigator on the project.
