Scholarship Program Coordinator - Student Financial Support & Services 14863
The Department of Student Financial Support & Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Scholarship Program Coordinator. This position works as part of a team to administer West Virginia University's scholarship programs, focusing on selection processes, policies and procedures, data requests, payment processes, reporting, communication, and legal requirements. This position serves as a liaison between WVU Colleges/Schools/Departments, the WVU Foundation, and other areas of Student Financial Support and Services on all issues related to scholarships.
In order to be successful, the ideal candidate will:
Complete testing to determine viability and effectiveness on proposed scholarship strategies to maximize enrollment initiatives. Review results of weekly algorithmic awarding of institutional scholarships and grants for accuracy with established strategies and policies. Write and review necessary Argos reports to monitor changes in student records and revise awards accordingly. Review overawards and make adjustments according to federal, state and institutional policies.
Determine students' renewal eligibility for institutional and state scholarships/grants, including PROMISE.
Administer scholarship awards made by WVU Colleges, Schools, and Departments. Determine annual budgets for WVU Foundation funds for which SFSS serves as the budget officer. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with representatives of awarding units to facilitate effective utilization of scholarship funds, and assist units to identify potential recipients, as needed.
Work with team to further implement Academic Works software used to match WVU Foundation scholarship funds with student recipients.
Provide information in support of funding requests and recipient data needed for stewardship initiatives. Work with team to reconcile funds. Provide information to development staff to help create new scholarships that will meet donor preference, that will help eligible students enroll/retain at WVU, and that can be awarded annually under standard SFSS procedures.
Counsel prospective/current students, parents, and WVU faculty/staff about scholarships, adhering to FERPA requirements. May present workshops/training.
Oversee disbursements and adjust financial aid packages as needed to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines regarding financial aid and scholarships, participate in the documentation of office policies and procedures for awarding scholarships, and other duties as assigned.
One (1) year of experience working in higher education;
One (1) year of experience in budget planning and management;
One (1) year of experience working with prospective and current students;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to attain a thorough in-depth knowledge of the various scholarship programs at WVU.
An extensive understanding of merit- and need-based aid and the role it plays in the recruitment and retention of capable students is required.
The ability to learn and understand federal financial aid is required.
Demonstrated budget planning and management experience is necessary.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be able to communicate effectively with prospective and current students, parents, scholarship selection committees, Dean's and the heads of other units, WVU Foundation employees, and other individuals across campus to award scholarships.
Ability to deal with difficult people, including finding acceptable solutions (whenever possible) while adhering to University and federal/state guidelines is necessary.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
A strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills are necessary to review and evaluate student records and reports to identify possible issues and determine appropriate actions is a must.
A high skill level in Microsoft Excel is preferred, as is experience with the BANNER student data system.
