JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assignedsupervisor, this position works within the Microbiology, Immunology, andBiochemistry Department (MIB) and is responsible for general laboratoryoversight, conducting experiments using standard immunological techniques, analyzing,recording, and preparing reports/graphs of experimental data from experimentsusing human or mouse tissues or mouse models of inflammation or infection.Supervises medical students and undergraduate students doing summer/year-roundresearch projects in the laboratory.
Generates Tumor Infiltrating T-cell lines from patients with various types of tumors; characterizes the cell lines using flow cytometry and intracellular cytokine staining; and generates single cell T-cell clones.
Prepares RNA or DNA for sequencing or performs qRT-PCR to measure the level of various inflammatory mediators or checkpoint inhibitor proteins and their receptors.
Works with mouse models of inflammation to identify the genetic basis of response to anti-inflammatory therapeutics.
Performs ELISA or bead-based arrays on tissues from human or mouse origin to measure inflammatory response.
Designs or optimizes assays; develops protocols or standard operating procedures for all techniques used; uses statistical analysis tools to analyze data; and generates graphs and reports from data.
Performs general laboratory housekeeping tasks orders supplies and keeps inventory train medical or graduate students in basic techniques.
Manages equipment service inspections, training of individuals, and maintenance of equipment.
Maintains inventory of supplies, reagents, cell lines, freezer contents, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
