The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications from candidates for the position of Faculty Research Associate. Candidates must show the capability to perform scholarly research in the areas of high-power power converters, solid state circuit breakers, MVDC power systems, and partial discharge mitigation on power converter components at high altitude. The candidate’s past and present experience with DoD programs, the capability to hold a DoD security clearance, and publication record will all be considered. The candidate should be able to support present and future ECE research programs and may also support the department in teaching and advising. Qualified candidates with an MS or BS in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Primary duties include:
Support faculty and principal investigators (PIs) in department research programs.
Maintain research laboratories, design and build test equipment and experiments.
Operate various laboratory test equipment.
Occasionally teach courses and advise students.
Write technical papers and make presentations on scientific research results.
Minimum Qualifications include:
A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Material Science, or a related
Demonstrated ability to work with student researchers.
Demonstrated ability to write scientific research papers.
Preferred Qualifications include:
An interest in and experience in high-power power converters, solid state circuit breakers, MVDC power systems, and partial discharge mitigation on power converter components at high altitude.
Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Material Science, or a related field.
NPS is a fully accredited graduate school with students from all U.S. armed services, as well as foreign military officers. U.S. citizenship is required. Salary is highly competitive and includes a generous locality allowance. Monterey is a short drive south from the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay area and is ideally situated along the spectacular central California coast.

Relocation expenses may be authorized for this position. This position is not eligible for full-time telework.
