Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated IT User Support Specialist for the New Jersey Poison Information & Education System (NJPIES), within the New Jersey Medical School.
The IT User Support Specialist will provide input to the strategic planning for the Help Desk future support, specifically the needs for Telecommuting and Cloud Networking, and will participate in the implementation of those plans.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Installs, configures, and supports multiple desktop applications including windows office suite. Provides technical advice and assistance to users in utilizing automated data systems and associated automated data processing equipment.
Serves as the first line technical expert on the maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware and software problems on user laptops and peripherals.
Installs new or replaces bad equipment such as boards, memory chips, numeric co-processors, motherboards, or disks on personal computers, laptop computers, monitors, or other peripheral devices.
Diagnoses and resolves software problems.
Services and supports connections and data switches between NJPIES, UHNJ & Rutgers.
Updates instructions for software, hardware, and peripheral configuration and installation.
Maintains system logs and trouble reports associated with computer operations and maintenance.
Maintains hardware and software, including upgrades and software installations.
Ensures computers are following RU standards.
Monitors and tracks computer assets; maintains hardware inventory.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field plus three (3) years of experience in the use or support of desktop computing.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced working knowledge in supporting software, hardware, and operating systems used on campus, including, but not limited to: Network printers, Windows operating systems, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office (2016-2019, Office365), ghosting/imaging software.
Knowledge of basic networking concepts.
