The Director of Development will secure private and voluntary support from alumni and friends for UT Arlington and the College of Business. Manage a portfolio to identify, qualify, and cultivate potential major gift donors. Solicit constituents in collaboration with academic leadership and ensure proper recognition and stewardship. Collaborate with colleagues in University Advancement and within the College of Business to develop and advance fundraising strategies.
Responsible for the management of 100-150 potential or actual donors. Make personal contact, including in-person visits, with a portfolio of individuals and, when appropriate, corporate representatives and foundation officers to build relationships and secure major gifts for the College of Business in coordination with the Dean of the College of Business. Serve as an integral team member for the Dean of the College of Business and work closely with the leadership, faculty, and staff in the College to develop and advance fundraising strategies. Participate in strategic engagement opportunities for the College. Work closely with the Associate Vice President for Development and University Initiatives to complete fundraising projects related to the College of Business. Work collaboratively with colleagues in University Advancement. Management responsibilities include supervision of one (1) development coordinator. Assist in the oversight of the College of Business Advisory Council and participate in volunteer leadership activities that engage and cultivate relationships. Performs all other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s degree. Five to Seven (5 to 7) years of experience in major gift fundraising and with a solid track record of securing major gifts, or related and transferable experience from corporate, community or philanthropic organizations. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; a very strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through; a strong commitment to the University and College's mission and values; superior communication skills with the ability to speak credibly about higher education and the aspirations of the University and College and be able to deliver effective written and oral presentations; the ability to travel extensively for meetings and to participate regularly in events and activities; the ability to manage complex relationships and be a proven collaborator with teamwork skills; the ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives, including goals and metrics for major gift activity and dollars raised. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Over seven (7) years of experience in major gift fundraising with a proven track record of success securing gifts at the six-figure level and higher; experience managing volunteers; prior work history at an institution of higher education; prior experience fundraising for a College of Business or other academic unit; experience with capital campaigns; knowledge of gift planning instruments and the ability to market them to alumni and other prospective donors; experience using Raiser's Edge or other Advancement databases; the ability to work with a diverse student body, staff, and constituents is preferred.
